How to behave in a pub
In almost every pub you won’t get served from your table, but you have to order at the bar. It is important to find out where the queue is, and even more important not to push in. British people are sensitive about that and would not like you for it. When it is your turn to give the order, they will most likely say ‘what will it be’ or ‘what can I get you’. In some pubs, they can ask if you would like to start a tab. It means that you can have your drinks written on a card or get a number to put them on so that you can pay for all the drinks at the end of the evening. You don’t usually tip bar staff in a pub. If you want to show your appreciation, you can offer them a drink.
Another important part of pub-culture is ‘Getting your round’. It means that if you are with a group, it is your turn to pay for the drinks. The golden rule in a pub is not to leave when it’s your round!
